Questions about the future of Hertha Berlin coach Markus Babbel were taboo at the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow's trip to Hoffenheim, as speculation mounted that the match will be his last in charge.Babbel's contract expires in the summer and he has hitherto resisted the club's attempts to tie him down to a new deal.
This has led to him being linked with a host of job sin the Bundesliga, either available or already occupied.
However, he claims that there is nothing sinister about his refusal to enter into talks with his club, insisting that he does not have time to do so at present and that the negotiations will be held during the winter break.
Until then, he will no longer be drawn on the issue, although he did say that the rumours were not affecting his team.
"If we had played five disastrous games, then I would say that the team has a problem with the issue, but we have played three draws in a row and now we want to break our winless run,'' he said.
Since no further details were forthcoming about Babbel's future the press conference was a brief one, during which Babbel managed to keep his focus on tomorrow's final league game of 2011.
"We have a great chance to end the first half of the season on a high,'' he added.
Hoffenheim coach Holger Stanislawski is also keeping his attention on the match, looking to build on a positive result against Nurnberg and end the year on a high.
"The 2-0 win in Nurnberg has given us renewed self-confidence and we want to build on that performance and remain in the top half of the table,'' he said.
"At the moment, we are nothing more than average,'' he said. "That is because we have not played consistently enough, but we have the quality and can play a second half of the season which can establish us in the upper regions.''
