Werder Bremen lost the chance to climb to second in the Bundesliga, as they were held to a draw in Augsburg on Friday night.

Claudio Pizarro received the visitors back on level midway through the terms of the second half after the home side had taken a lead of 49 minutes by Axel Bellinghausen.

Thomas Schaaf's team saw a winner, but were unable to find the Bavarians stood firm on the back to build on their first win of the weekend last season and move a point ahead of bottom club Hamburg Freiburg.

Augsburg seems to have a new air of confidence in them after their first victory in the Bundesliga last week, but still seemed reluctant to attack their defensive organization ensured that seemed safe in the back.

The first time Bremen was able to find a way through a corner was in the ninth minute that fell from Markus Rosenberg, but he showed his shot from the edge of the penalty area over the crossbar.

The woodwork came to the rescue of the home team just over 10 minutes later, when Rosenberg came a little closer to the goal.

The hosts looked for opportunities in the Bellinghausen almost a counterattack and crowned with a goal, but Tim Wiese, back in the Bremen goal after a three-match suspension, made a good disown him.

Bellinghausen beat Wiese with his next opportunity in the fourth minute of the second half, however, to put forward Augsburg after receiving the ball from Sascha Molders.

The goal provoked a reaction of Bremen, who raised their game and were rewarded with an equalizer on 68 minutes.

Mehmet Ekici corner lit by Andreas Wolf at the far post, where Pizarro was on hand to nod in his seventh goal of the campaign.

It is evident that the rise now, Bremen hunted for a second goal but Simon Jentzsch, who passed a late fitness test to keep his ever-present record this term would not be beaten again, as Augsburg held for the point.
