For the Spurs, Aaron Lennon, Sebastien Bassong and Kyle Walker were the only survivors of the team that had started in Europe on Thursday League victory over Rubin Kazan, with Emmanuel Adebayor, Van der Vaart, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Scott Parker - who was named as captain - between those restored to the side.

Walker beat rhythm Givet down the right and pulled the ball from Van der Vaart, who slotted past Paul Robinson.

Spurs continued to press, with a cross from Martin Olsson Bale diversion to stop Robinson and Blackburn goalkeeper then stand to save at the feet of Adebayor.

There was nothing wrong with precision moments later Van der Vaart as the Dutchman scored his second of the afternoon, pick up the ball when Benoit Assou-Ekotto go rebound and curling Vukcevic is deliciously beyond Robinson.
