Joe Mason's second goal in as many matches helped Cardiff to a 1-0 victory over Burnley in the fourth round of the Carling Cup.
Young scored in the victory of the Blue Birds "by Barnsley 5-3 on Saturday and got the only goal in the 39th minute to boost Malky Mackay men in the quarterfinals.
Mason opened the scoring after 39 minutes, curling home from the edge of the hand area of the Bluebirds the lead. The former Plymouth man had previously reached the post from inside the box, while Craig Conway and Don Cowie should therefore have done better, as Cardiff enjoyed the better of the chances in the first half.
Mason had a goal disallowed for offside after half an hour, while Ben Mee and directed by Dean Marney free-kick was close to visitors in Burnley, could not find the equalizer.
After Marney brought a simple savings Tom Heaton in the Cardiff goal with a tame free-kick from 20 yards three minutes, the hosts went within inches of taking an early lead.
Mason, sent clean through the net, saw his left foot effort from 15 yards beat goalkeeper Lee Grant Burnley, but touching the outside of the post on its way out of play.
In a lively opening the meeting, Burnley and Alex MacDonald countered quickly saw his shot tipped wide by Heaton before Brian Easton increased to greater nod to cap the arms of the Bluebirds' once more.
But despite a promising start, the tie soon became a small apartment, with each midfield canceling the other.
Conway pulled the trigger from afar without luck Cardiff, while Jay Rodriguez directed Kieran Trippier center along the bar for visitors, because neither could find the breakthrough.
Andrew Taylor delivered a sharp diagonal ball into the box, Mason cushioned a header into the path of an unmarked Cowie and Scotland should have done better than fire his shot wildly over the bar high.
But the Bluebirds finally made the most of their chances six minutes before the break. Mason, dangerous in the first half, took possession on the edge of Burnley penalty area, checked inside of his left foot and pulled out an excellent curling effort to beat Grant and Cardiff's hand to his head.
After half an hour neither of us could find no time, and while Mason was a powerful shot that found the back of the net ruled out for offside, the game started to turn rancid.
It was not until 70 minutes for Burnley to manage a notable attempt in the second period, but even then could not direct his Mee header Ross Wallace the ball on target.
Marney deflected free kick was incredibly close to level the game as the Clarets collected in the last quarter of the game, before Mark Hudson's header looked clean slightly wide for the hosts with 15 minutes remaining.
Burnley finished the game on top, but could not break the defense of Cardiff.
