In the second half Joe Ledley header gave Celtic a deserved point against Rennes Europa League on the Route de Lorient, but once again, Neil Lennon was left counting the cost of a costly defensive error.

In the half hour mark, with an equal game, a long punt home Costil Benoit saves innocent passage opened by Fraser Forster, but there seemed to be no communication between him and Cha Du-ri, who helped the then watched in horror as the ball hit the keeper rings and on the network.

That of South Korea was playing in the midfield and back as last man only as a safety measure as Glenn Loovens and Charlie Mulgrew continues to the other end after a set of parts, made it more difficult to digest for the boss Celtic.

It seemed another disappointing European night was in the cards for Parkhead men but spirit and mounted a counterattack in the 70th minute Ledley flicked a free kick from Mulgrew Costil over to give the visitors a draw even though they remain bottom of the group I on goal difference.

Once again, Lennon changed his defense, this time dropping the cap and replace it with Daniel Majstorovic Loovens.

The Swedish international paid the price for the Hoops' unfortunate first time in Kilmarnock on Saturday, where he entered the range of 3-0 before fighting back to salvage a point.

The midfielder Victor Wanyama became injured striker Gary Hooper, who did not travel, leaving Anthony Stokes to carry the line.

As promised, Rennes coach Frédéric Antonetti left out his star midfielder Yann M'Vila in conjunction with other regulars like Jonathan Pitroipa, Victor Montano and Jires Kembo-Ekoko start on the bench.

Celtic started confidently enough and midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng drive was a long-range early forcing a stop Costil.

Ki then sank in the area after a challenge from Vincent Pajot, but their demands for a penalty went unheeded by the Polish referee Robert Malek.

The French club slowly worked their way into the game and on 12 minutes captain Kader Mangane headed a looping free kick from midfielder Julien Feret of the target range at the far post, before the unit was led by Youssouf Hadji Wanyama for a corner which the visitors survived.

Rennes had control of the party to spend Ecuador, but Forster had not seen any real action.

The Parkhead side's first chance came on 24 minutes when standing in the pattern Mulgrew threaded a long pass by Stokes, who cleverly turned Mangane leave for dead, but became Costil Irish shot over the bar from the corner, came to nothing.

That almost appeared to boost Lennon side, but melts in the half hour mark when confusion between Du-ri and Forster gave the local head.

It was a sickener for Celtic, which was about two behind moments later but Hadji's header at close range header Alexander Tettey cross went over the crossbar.

Celtic still looked a little shocked at the beginning of the second half, after what was undoubtedly a strong pep-talk by Lennon.

In the 49th minute, however, Loovens did well to deny Tettey who had burst into the box to get a pass from Abdoulrazak Boukari, Dutch shepherd the ball to Forster.

Stokes went on a lone furrow in attack and while Rennes are accumulated pressure almost, it was hard to see where Celtic tie coming.

In minute 55, Forster, who was being insulted by fans, partly redeemed himself when he made a great point blank save from defender Chris Mavinga who had worked a one-two with Feret before bursting into the Celtic box .

Rennes took Pitroipa and Kembo Ekoko by Yacine Brahimi and Boukari, but on 63 minutes made another save Costil Stokes, who had shot and not very straight at the goalkeeper.

Moments later, as Celtic recovered, Costil stopped a shot at the feet of Cha Ki, but the ball crashed off the crossbar from the edge of the box.

The game went from end to end and in the 70th minute Celtic got what they deserved when midfielder Joe Ledley high jump in a box full of Rennes to the head in a free kick from Mulgrew.

The game was rushed to an exciting final five minutes later, after Stokes had been fouled by Mangano, Mulgrew fired the free kick from 30 meters just after the entrance.

In minute 79, Forster made another great point blank save, this time Hadji overhead kick.

Both sides went all out for the winner and in the final seconds Forster made another big block of Pitroipa but the rings were worthy of a point that Lennon and fans were celebrated with some taste to the final whistle.
