Siena enjoyed only their second win of the Series A heap more misery on bottom Cesena this afternoon.
Early goals in each half from Paul Gonzalez and Emanuele Calaiò secured the points for the locals who took advantage of a team without suspended striker Cesena Adrian Mutu.
The Romanian is serving the first of a three-match ban for striking Mattia Cassani in the goalless draw with Fiorentina last week.
Cesena seemed to feel the absence of Mutu at the start and runs away with just nine minutes on the clock thanks to a solo effort made by Gonzalez luxury, the striker ran from the halfway line and the area before planting a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner.
Gonzalez then forced a good value goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli Cesena with a shot from distance as the home team seemed to build in its place.
Antonio Candreva carved in Cesena the first opportunity after 13 minutes, a strike that tested the goalkeeper punched Zeljco Brkic, while Marco Parolo moved closer to visitors shortly after, when grazed the crossbar from 25 yards.
Confidence started to grow in Cesena and Candreva team went to a draw after 34 minutes with a long-range power shot that beat Brkic, but returned in the post.
Eder Citaden also put an effort wide from the edge of the area, like Siena managed to maintain their slender lead at the interval.
