Sweden sealed second place in Group E, and at least a play-off qualifying for Euro 2012 with victory on the road to Finland on Saturday night.
Goals from two of its troops based in England put Sweden on control, Sebastian Larsson and Martin Blackburn Sunderland Olsson network at the beginning of each half.
Joona Toivi, who plays for Djurgarden in Sweden, halved the deficit 18 minutes of time to create a close final, but the hosts could not find the equalizer.
The victory lifted the visitors 21 points and kept them in contention for the position of direct qualification available to a better runner.
Third-placed Hungary, not in action tonight, you can still finish level on points with Sweden, but the team of Erik Hamren have a better record head to head.
Swedish nerves settled quickly as Larsson put them ahead in the eighth minute.
The midfielder swept a low shot into the left corner from 12 yards after being chosen by Kim Kallstrom's right cross.
Scandinavian Rivals returned to them, Teemu Pukki see his long range effort tipped over the bar by Andreas Isaksson, while goalkeeper saved with his feet to deny Kasper Hamalainen minutes later.
At the other end the visitors threatened a second when Daniel Majstorovic met Rasmus Elm corner but the defender's header went wide.
Finland hopes of qualifying long since disappeared, but were not willing to lie, Mika Vayrynen to go in the first minutes of the second half.
Sweden established a two-goal lead on 52 minutes, though, as Olsson returned the ball from close range after Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been near the intersection of Larsson.
The hosts pulled one back on 73 minutes when Roman Eremenko Toivi ball turned into, but Sweden was maintained for a crucial victory.
