Report:
Jake Jervis emerged as the Swindon hero as the Robins won through to the third round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a 2-1 victory at Exeter.

The striker, who returned to the team after missing Friday's defeat at Macclesfield, opened the scoring after 18 minutes when he capitalised on some poor Exeter defending to lash home from 12 yards.

Jervis then capitalised on a howler by Exeter goalkeeper Artur Krysiak to double Swindon's lead in the 35th minute.

The Polish goalkeeper tried to turn after receiving a backpass, but was robbed of possession by Jervis, who walked the ball into an empty goal.

Exeter raised their game after the break and had numerous chances to force something from the game, but all they had to show for their efforts was a sublime chip from Daniel Nardiello 18 minutes from time.

Billy Jones came close to earning a draw and sending the game into a penalty shoot-out, but his thunderous drive from fully 30 yards was superbly saved by Mattia Lanzano.

Preview:
Exeter will be without midfielder Jake Taylor on loan for their Johnstone Paint Trophy tie against Swindon.

Taylor, who is on a one-month reading, has been selected for Wales Under-21 squad for their UEFA Under-21 qualifying games with Montenegro and the Czech Republic and not available to his manager Paul Tisdale.

Taylor is likely to be replaced by Richard Logan and Matt Whichelow the Greeks' starting lineup.

Daniel Nardiello was withdrawn by Tisdale with a minor hit at the end of the victory over Oldham on Saturday, but the striker is expected to be able to function on Tuesday.

Fellow forward John O'Flynn played 17 minutes in the same game after recovering from an injury and is under discussion again, but midfielder Liam Sercombe (broken foot) is still a couple of weeks out of shape.

Phil Smith, is struggling to be fit for Swindon after suffering a groin injury in Macclesfield, on Friday night.

The goalkeeper was replaced by Matthias Lanzano just after halftime for the defeat of the Silkmen, but director Paolo Di Canio expects the cap to be available for the trip to St James' Park.

Meanwhile, defender and striker Liam Ridehalgh Jake Jervis opens in the fight altogether. The couple moved on loan to Huddersfield and Birmingham Robins, respectively, last week and both came off the bench in the defeat of Macclesfield.

Di Canio has to name the same side in consecutive games so far this term. Abdul Said midfielder is a long time sufferer with a leg injury.
