Oxford duo of Robert Hall and Deane Smalley scored two Quickfire in the second half to beat Aldershot 2-1 at targets around the Johnstone Paint Trophy seconds.
The West Ham loanee strikes Hall, with his third goal in five games, and Smalley, with his first club, was enough despite the efforts Danny Hylton 14 minutes from time.
In a rudimentary in the first half neither were able to threaten the intermittent Damian Batt shot from the right or came closer to the goal.
But the game sparked into life after the break as the young Hall broke the left before shooting from the edge of the area in 49 minutes.
And only three minutes later Smalley finally showed why he was so highly valued in Chesterfield that face away from Darren Jones before smashing home.
With the game slipping away from the shooting, with 14 minutes remaining, Alex Rodman free throw Hylton was in force, the eighth of the season but it was too little, too late.
