If only Westwood could consistently hole his fair share of putts he would be near unbeatable, currently ranks 3rd in GIR, 2nd in scrambling and 1st in proximity to the hole on PGA tour in 2012. Unfortunately he ranks 168th in strokes gained putting, with his stronger putting round in his closing 63 at the Honda last week I am betting he can keep the putter hot, if he does he will be hard to beat.
Phil Mickelson 14/1 Betfred EW
Although still not a big price I believe Phil has slipped under the radar a bit this week, he took a week off last week while the headlines were being made by McIlroy and Woods. Let us not forget that he already has a dominant win and a T2 in his last event, he has won here in 2009 and with his short game back to its best (10th in strokes gained putting), even if he is a little errant off the Tee I’m not sure it will matter.
Bill Haas 55/1 Bet 365 EW
Thatsagoal.com friend Bill Haas (Placed and Won for us this season already) is once again selected. This is frankly an insane price when you bear in mind the following, Haas is a bigger price than Rickie Fowler who has never won a PGA tour event, statistically he has everything you need at this venue – 17th in GIR, T19th in ball striking and 40th in strokes gained putting. Everything suggests another strong showing.
Hunter Mahan 35/1 Bet 365 EW
Mahan is another good fit statistically for this event, 21st in GIR, 23rd in strokes gained putting and 7th in ball striking. Combine this with the fact he was solo 9th here last year, he has the ability to raise his game for the big events having already won two WGC events with the latest coming just a couple of weeks ago at the Accenture Match Play. A good ball striker and putter should be a great match for TPC Blue Monster.
