Schalke left-back Christian Fuchs expects FC Twente to be relentless in attack in their UEFA Europa League last 16 first leg tie.The 25-year-old Austria international is wary of the Enschede-based side's current goalscoring form after they thrashed Eredivisie title rivals PSV Eindhoven 6-2 away from home last weekend despite playing almost the entire second half with only 10 men.
Steve McClaren's Twente are aiming to reach the quarter-finals of the competition for the second consecutive season and will face an injury-hit Schalke side on Thursday night at De Grolsch Veste.
Fuchs is well aware of the potential onslaught he faces in defence when he comes up against the side who have scored 65 goals in their 23 league games.
"Enschede have set off fireworks in attack during their recent games,'' Fuchs told Schalke's official website, www.schalke04.de.
"They won their last game 6-2, but we do not need to talk about the qualities of that as they are are obvious.
"I think they will play very aggressively at home and will try to score as early as possible. For us it is important to stop them and keep a clean sheet for as long as possible to achieve a good result away, which we can then build on in the home game.
"I wouldn't say there is a team that is favourite to win. We must ensure that we achieve a good result in Enschede and then play in front of our fans in the next match.''
The Gelsenkirchen side have been dealt a blow as they will be without Europa League top-scorer Klaas Jan Huntelaar.
Huntelaar, who has netted six goals in the competition, has not recovered from the concussion he suffered in Holland's friendly against England last week.
Centre-back Benedikt Howedes has been ruled out due to the thigh injury he picked up in last weekend's Bundesliga game against Freiburg and Christoph Metzelder will also be missing from Schalke's defence due to a hamstring problem.
Twente boss McClaren will select from an almost fully fit squad but will still be without midfielder Denny Landzaat and Wesley Verhoek for the clash.
Verhoek has returned to training after recovering from a foot injury but is yet to make his debut for Twente following his switch from ADO Den Haag in January.
