Liverpool have a chance to make a goal in the 18th minute when the referee awarding them a penalty, following a violation of Wojciech Szczesny against Luis Suarez. But Dirk Kuyt missed a ball as goalkeeper kick unreadable, so any rebound effort in a different side of the goal.
Liverpool's first to open the scoring, the goal came on 23 minutes. Trying to block a low cross which comes from the right side, Koscielny instead turned the ball into his own net. The Reds lead 1-0.
About 10 minutes later the Gunners managed to equalize. Bacary Sagna cross from the right side off and managed headlong to perfection by Van Persie from the face of goal, after he escaped from custody Jamie Carragher
