FC Vaslui 0 - 0 Lazio 1st Dec 2011 video FC Vaslui held Lazio to a 0-0 draw in their Europa League Group D match in Romania to remain firmly in contention for a place in the round of 32.
The result has left the two sides level on six points, with the Romanian side second in the standings ahead of the Italians on goal difference.
The final round of matches sees Vaslui travel to winless FC Zurich while Lazio face a daunting task as they host group winners Sporting Lisbon on December 14.
Lazio, looking for their first win on the road in Europe this season, made a strong start and almost went in front after 12 minutes.
Miroslav Klose beat the offside trap and surged towards the area but was unable to beat Vaslui goalkeeper Vytautas Cerniauskas in a one-on-one.
At the other end, Lucian Sanmartean's 30-yard effort went just wide of the far post.
On the half-hour mark, Sanmartean's right-footed volley was kept out by Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.
Lazio's Senad Lulic then tried his luck from distance but his shot did not trouble Cerniauskas.
On the stroke of half-time, Vaslui almost broke the deadlock. Lazio failed to clear the ball inside the area and Gladstone forced Marchetti to make a dive to clear his right-footed shot towards the far post.
The Italians wasted a good chance in the 54th minute. Klose served Djibril Cisse and his right-footed shot from the edge of the area went off target.
On the hour mark, Martins Adailton's curled free-kick went just over the crossbar, before Marchetti punched away Adailton's goalbound effort.
In the 70th minute, Mike Tamwanyera beat Marchetti but the goal was disallowed after the Vaslui striker was correctly adjudged to be offside.
Lazio then should have gone in front. Klose fed substitute Giuseppe Sculli inside the box and he struck the ball over the bar from close range.
With six minutes remaining, Vaslui almost grabbed the winner. Tamwanyera got behind Adailton's cross and his powerful header beat Marchetti but went just wide of the far post.
Lazio pressed forward more aggressively in the final stages but could not find a way past Cerniauskas as Vaslui extended their unbeaten home run in Europe to 11 games.source
