Anderlecht 5 - 3 Lokomotiv Moscow 14th Dec 2011 Story
Anderlecht completed a perfect record in Europa League Group L with a comfortable win over Lokomotiv Moscow in Brussels tonight.
Sacha Kljestan and Fernando Canesin struck within six first-half minutes to set up the Belgian side's sixth successive win after they had fallen behind to Vladislav Ignatiev's opener.
Second-half goals from Marcin Wasilewski, Matias Suarez, the competition's leading scorer with seven goals, and Guillaume Gillet completed what turned into a rout.
Amongst those goals Lokomotiv substitute Dmitri Sychev netted a consolation penalty and an 89th-minute effort as his side progressed despite the large defeat.
Anderlecht had remarkably begun the game with the threat of missing out on top spot in the group despite their unblemished record.
Lokomotiv's only defeat had been their 2-0 reverse to Anderlecht in Russia and they knew bettering that result would see them snatch away top spot.
The Russians threatened to do that when they grabbed the lead after 20 minutes.
Maicon had already forced home goalkeeper Silvio Proto into action before Ignatiev beat him after sneaking in behind the home defence. Anderlecht had pushed out after initially clearing the danger but Ignatiev raced onto Dmitri Torbinsky's hopeful ball back in before sliding past Proto on the angle.
Lokomotiv could crucially have made it 2-0 on the half-hour but Dennis Glushakov's 20-yard effort was kept out by Proto with his feet.
It proved a vital piece of work as Anderlecht forged ahead with two quickfire goals.
Kljestan scored the first on 33 minutes when a clearing header fell to him inside the area and he fired an angled shot across a diving Anton Amelchenko and into the far corner.
Anderlecht were then ahead six minutes later when Canesin flashed a low shot in from the edge of the area.
From then on Anderlecht took over with Wasilewski netting a third on 58 minutes before Suarez got on the scoresheet yet again to break Lokomotiv's resistance.
Sychev pulled one back from the penalty spot but Gillet completed a thoroughly satisfying group campaign with Anderlecht's fifth on 78 minutes.
Sychev grabbed his second and Lokomotiv's third in the 89th minute, finishing from 12 yards from Magomed Ozdoev's pass
