Coventry hit back to claim a valuable point in a 1-1 draw against Cardiff in a championship match npower matched.
Local boy Peter Whittingham, once on the books of Coventry, had looked to have proved the scourge of the Sky Blues once again with his fourth goal in five meetings between the two clubs just after the break.
Ironically, it came through Aron Gunnarsson long throw, so often a weapon of Coventry in his three years at the club before his summer move south Wales, as the ball broke for home attack Whittingham from the edge of the penalty area.
The midfielder then saw a long range strike at the top of the crossbar by Joe Murphy before Lukas Jutkiewicz shooter Sky Blues moved Whittingham level in seven goals this season, his header well taken shortly after the time collegiate have crossed the line.
Both sides will be relatively happy with a point, but is more welcome to the wrestling team Andy Thorn, who had lost four of their previous five Malky Mackay to promotion chasing Cardiff, in contrast, had won four of their last five years and rose to third place in the process.
It was the tiles, also enjoys the defense center Ben Turner after his summer switch between the two clubs, who threatened twice during what was a very low profile home to proceedings in front of a crowd of only 12,317 - only 25 more than the lowest league gate But the Ricoh Arena, which was recorded last season.
Whittingham led a comprehensive effort before reaching the provider after 11 minutes with a delightful volley pass found Kenny Miller, who then drilled some more.
The hosts enjoyed their first chance on 17 minutes as Jutkiewicz cut to collect a loose ball on the edge of the area before lashing a low left-footed effort across goal and just wide of the post David Marshall.
Clive Platt could not find the target with two headers from crosses of Richard Keogh and Chris Hussey before the drying potential with both sides playing in the park's center.
Sky Blues stopper Murphy had to go down, so turn back Whittingham low effort after 37 minutes but that was almost as good as it got before the break.
But everything changed just three minutes after the break-reaching Gunnarsson was only half cleared to the edge of the penalty area and hit the ball Whittingham at the bottom front of the faithful visitors.
Richard Keogh nodded half goal chance at the other end before Whittingham was again, this time to see his 30-yard strike tipped the crossbar and over for Murphy.
Saving quickly proved crucial as Hussey left side was found in the left channel on the other side and delivered a ball to the head of Jutkiewicz, who nodded the ball against the underside of the crossbar and over the line.
Cardiff number nine Miller had three good chances to gain points for the visitors at the other end, twice shot wide before Murphy had denied an expansion block the final minutes.
