Clint Dempsey scored his 23rd career goal for the United States against Honduras to give their first win under new coach Juergen Klinsmann.
On a humid night in Miami, U.S. had a lot of possibilities, but the goal of 36 minutes of Dempsey was just one of the games and, in fact, goalkeeper Tim Howard had to work in more than one occasion to ensure that the home team left with a sheet blank.
Brek Shea Young provided the help Dempsey, as he slid the ball into the box for the Fulham midfielder to coolly slot home with his left foot, but missed the second half a goal as he slid open, while that only a few feet away.
Dempsey also had a goal ruled out for pushing head, but it proved costly as Honduras could not mount a final challenge.
