Highlights
report:
Richard Dunne was the Republic of Ireland hero again as his goal that beat Armenia and in the Euro 2012 play-offs.
The Aston Villa defender, whose party man defensive display in Russia last month helped secure a point, we are sure of the way by Ireland in the last match of Group B with a 60th minute goal were consolidated in the second place on a night when both sides had a man sent off.
Much of what could have gone much of the Republic before the break they did to the Armenians, whose goalkeeper dangerous Roman Berezovsky sent just 26 minutes of play.
Plight of the visitors further one minute before the break when defender Valeri Aleksanyan Damien Duff cross turned into his own net, and when Dunne including a second home at the time, the game seemed over.
But Henrikh Mkhitaryan strike two minutes later ended the streak of eight clean sheets Ireland and led comeback concert, and the final whistle was greeted with much relief as joy.
Giovanni Trapattoni, whose future as a director seems inextricably linked to success or failure of this campaign, saw his decision to play Simon Cox in place of Shane Long to pay, although they have been less satisfied with the dismissal harder Kevin Doyle for a second yellow card.
Doyle had lost the first leg of the play-offs as a result of his first book anyway, but captain Robbie Keane hopes manager is eligible to play or Italian singers will be without their two first choice.
Almost two years ago, the dreams of the Republic, the World Cup was ended by a handball decision - or rather a non-decision - such as France scraped past them with the help of a large portion of good luck.
That hurt has festered ever since, and the prospect of another crack in the draw for the play-offs is the concern that brings both the enthusiasm and hope.
However, beggars can not be choosers and Russia having pushed all the way, Trapattoni's men knew the face of tonight's game that a draw would be enough to book their place in the play-off.
Armenia came to Dublin full of confidence after three straight wins and scoring 11 goals and was just a hint of concern around the stadium Aviva, if not in the home dressing room before kick-off .
However, the end of its preparation, the only thing that Trapattoni could not account for the luck. It was to his taste than when fortune decided to intervene, he did for the men in green.
In a tight opening half hour, the visitors played as invoice, passing the ball confidently with Mark Pizzelli orchestrating from midfield and Yura Movsisyan Mkhitaryan and ahead of him looking menacing.
However, it was Doyle, who was the first work of a porter, but not overburden Berezovsky with their effort after 12 minutes after combining with Cox.
But the game came with 26 minutes gone, when the night of Berezovsky came to a conclusion premature.
Doyle reacted first with a ball on the top before trying to get a shot at advancing goalkeeper, whose save was made, no doubt, outside the penalty area.
Spanish referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez, consulted his assistant before producing a red card as Berezovsky said in vain that he had stopped the ball with his chest.
Surprisingly, replacement of Arsen Petrosyan was also penalized for a similar crime a minute before the break, despite failing to prevent an obvious goalscoring opportunity, it was just said.
However, the substitute, who had come for the midfielder Edgar Malakyan following the expulsion, and had to collect the ball from his net when Aleksanyan did in the second suit that Doyle had failed to do in the short and returned home cross under Duff.
Armenia were determined to stick to his principles and continued to play enterprising football after the break.
But from Ireland to make their numerical advantage tell, the long-ball approach of the first 45 minutes paved the way for a broader brand of football.
Doyle was denied twice by good blocks Karlen Mkrtchyan and defensive midfielder Keith Andrews slammed a 25-yard shot a foot wide of the post.
Dunne seemed to have secured victory when including the ball from close range after teasing cross Petrosyan was palmed against Aiden McGeady.
However, instant Mkhitaryan two minutes later cut the deficit and a little more calmly, Movsisyan could have done the most good substitute Edgar Manucharyan 66 minutes to run through the finish.
McGeady should have done better when set for second after Duff, Shay Given, but was relieved to see Manucharyan inch head more than 70 minutes Mkhitaryan the corner with the game far from over.
In minute 81 of Doyle dismissal for elbowing Mkrtchyan brought a disappointing end to an eventful afternoon, but the smiles at the end of the party were Irish.
