Erik Lamela made a dream debut for Rome with the winning goal against Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico in the afternoon.
The River Plate player former player from the start against Palermo and Roma took the lead in the seventh minute.
The home team squandered several opportunities to extend their lead but remained three points.
The result lifted Roma to sixth in the standings, one point ahead of Palermo, who are still without a win on their travels this season.
Roma coach, Luis Enrique, still without injured captain Francesco Totti, had demanded an immediate reaction from his side after the 2-1 defeat last week at Lazio in the derby of the city.
Palermo shook the strongest and had the first chance after four minutes when they were low shot right Zahavi remained Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
The home side went ahead soon after.
Lamela fed Daniele De Rossi in the box and hit the ball into the bottom left corner, where Palermo goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas could not reach.
Rome could have doubled their lead on 15 minutes but his header from Daniel Osvaldo, Marco Cassetti's cross went wide.
Palermo seemed to strike back and had two great opportunities to do so before the break.
Giulio Migliaccio nodded over the crossbar on 35 minutes, while shortly after Abel Hernandez goalbound strike from the edge of the area forced Stekelenburg fully stretch to clear his shot.
Roma had the first chance of the second half, Daniel Osvaldo has the cross head behind De Rossi, but his close range effort was high.
The home side continued to press forward and Lamela about to add a second, but his left-footed strike from 10 yards went wide.
Palermo showed more determination after the hour mark and Zahavi turned and sent his shot from 19 meters pole.
In minute 70, a short head Mauricio Pinilla went over the crossbar on another occasion was asking visitors.
Substitute Fabrizio Miccoli could have snatched a point in the final seconds, but his 20 yard strike was held by Stekelenburg.
