Nurnberg and Mainz shared six goals in an entertaining Bundesliga encounter at the Frankenstadion.

Markus Feulner and Robert Mak put the home side two goals up within 20 minutes, but Mainz drew level before half time with goals from Niko Bungert and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting.

The visitors took the lead early in the second half through Andreas Ivanschitz, but Tomas Pekhart had the final say with an equaliser eight minutes from time.

Former Mainz midfielder Feulner got the scoring under way in the fifth minute with a simple tap-in after Pekhart headed Timothy Chandler's cross down to him.

Feulner then turned provider for Mak's goal in the 19th minute.

He led a counter-attack into the Mainz penalty area before pulling the ball back intelligently to his team-mate, who placed his shot low into the bottom corner.

Feulner was clearly enjoying himself and he confidently tried his luck from distance, but sent the ball over the crossbar.

Mainz responded well with Bungert bringing them back into the game with a header from close range in the 32nd minute.

Ivanschitz then shot into the side-netting from a tight angle as the visitors started to grow in confidence.

They got the equaliser they were threatening on the stroke of half-time when Choupo-Moting headed in Nikolce Noveski's corner with Timm Klose only helping the ball in on the line as he tried to clear it.

Mainz took the lead for the first time in the 52nd minute when Ivanschitz met a deflected cross from Marcel Risse with an unstoppable header past Alexander Stephan.

It was now the hosts' turn to come from behind, and they succeeded in finding an equaliser in the 82nd minute.

Mak did all the hard work before passing the ball to Pekhart to provide the finish and salvage a point for Nurnberg.

Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel is not letting his side's poor recent form get him down as he looks for a turning point at Nurnberg tomorrow.

Fourteenth-placed Mainz have lost three Bundesliga games in a row, but Tuchel insists the situation is not as bad as is being made out.

"There is a tendency in the public eye towards giving the impression that we are bottom of the table and without a chance,'' complained Tuchel at the pre-match press conference.

"That is not the case. And I am not prepared to share this view.

"I don't want to give an overall judgement about how the team is. Of course we are not oozing self-confidence after the negative results, but it is equally clear that we can win at Nurnberg.
